Global Pig Iron production rises in March 2012

Global pig iron production increased by 3.8% year-on-year to 96.43 million metric tons in March this year and up by 8.13% month-on month, as per latest data released by data released by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel).Global pig iron production reached 89.16 million metric tons in February this year.

According to Worldsteel, global pig iron production advanced 2.64% year-on-year to 277.32 million metric tons in the first quarter of the year.

China is the world's biggest producer of pig iron in the first quarter with 165.19 million metric tons, up 4.94% compared to Q1 2011 and constituting 60 percent of global pig iron production.
